Washington 5K Fun Run
A big THANK YOU to everyone who took part in the Washington 5K Fun Run raising funds for Bridge on Sunday 21st August in Princess Anne Park. Nearly £600 has been raised and a great day was had by all.
Outstanding Learner of the Year
Chevonne Lawson
North East Regional Award winner
Nominator: Katherine Bone, The Bridge Project, Washington

Individual Regional Awards
The journey Chevonne, 20, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, has made, from a teenager in care with behavioural issues to a young mum who is now studying an Access to University course, is remarkable. Despite having to overcome numerous issues in recent years - including homelessness and bereavement - Chevonne has completed a NOCN level 1 and 2 diploma in Progression, and Literacy levels 1 and 2 since joining The Bridge Project in September 2009. This has led to a confirmed place to study Criminology and Law at university on completion of the Access course.
Becoming a teenage mother inspired Chevonne to leave her troubled past behind. She is now keen for her children to experience a different childhood to her own and take their lead from her. 'I feel that through education I have transformed my life and although it has been challenging, I have the ability and skills to progress and be an effective practitioner in my chosen field,' said Chevonne, who is keen to study further so she can make positive use of her childhood experiences and help others within the care system.'
Our Bridget
Congratulations to Bridge learner Lilian Spence who recently won our Bridge Mascot Competition.
Lilian designed 'Bridget' - The Wise Owl on the branches of knowledge in the Centre of Learning. We hope to be using Lilian's design on future publicity, but are still waiting for someone to come up with a Bridget the Owl costume to wear for event days, so if you are handy with a sewing machine and like a challenge, please get in touch.
